Fit Body and Mind

April 1, 2011

I was awoken early this morning by my dog, Herman, barking. Herman is slightly eccentric and I think he barks in his sleep. It reminds a bit of the film Arthur when Dudley Moore just laughs out loud seemingly at nothing, before declaring that sometimes he just thinks funny things. I might rename my dog Arthur. Anyway the problem was it was 5am and I couldn’t get back to sleep. What should I do?

Well it was a bit earlier than normal but I decided to take my daily run and get myself ready for the day ahead. I find a jog in the park really makes me feel good not just physically but mentally too. Today was no exception and I put in a good shift at work. I read somewhere that it is a scientific fact that physical exercise stimulates the brain. I’m sure it works for me.

Funnily I noticed an improvement in my ability to memorize stuff when I took the NYPD Police Officer Entrance Exam. Quite honestly I was a bit lazy at high school and did enough to get by. Sport had fallen by the wayside when I was 14 or 15 so my fitness levels had dropped. I knew I had to work on my fitness before I applied to be a police officer. It paid off because I sailed through the physical and written exams.
